KidsCongressTM is taking a new swing after a group of 30 kids came together from two different schools in Christchurch to decide the theme for the big event this year.
KidsCongressTM is a two-day learning conference for kids, and run by kids. The students will use ICT gear to produce cool projects and present their skills to their friends and family.
This year, there are 300 places for students from year five - eight all over the South Island. The theme, Adrenalin Pump, will hopefully encourage the students to get active, physically and mentally. The event will be held at QEII Stadium in Christchurch on 28 and 29 May.
The organising committee kids come from Waimairi and Windsor Schools in Christchurch, and are joined by Waimairi School Principal Mike Anderson, who has run the successful event for the last nine years with his previous school, North Loburn.
The children have been given jobs to do in order to prepare for KidsCongressTM, including accountancy, publicity and sponsorship. They will be given $30,000 to spend on name badges, drink bottles, food and drink for the kids and supervisors, t- shirts for the committee, teacher release, ICT gear, postage, venue hire, stationary, and an evening extravaganza after the big event.
“It’s really nice to get the opportunity to go to another school and work together,” says Lucy Robert, 10, a year six from Waimairi on the organising committee.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done’’ says George Young, a year six Waimairi School boy on the organising committee.
