In a press release by the NZ Homebased ECE Association today, it was announced that CORE's Pasifika education consultant Manu Faaea-Semeatu is one of the keynote speakers to address their Conference on 7 September.
Manu has been involved in creating submissions for various policy documents such as the Pasifika Education Plan for the Ministry of Education, the Pacific Languages Framewoerk for the Pacific Island Affairs, and the Pasifika Strategy for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. She is available for consultancy on a broad range of Pasifika education areas, including curriculum design, community engagement, responsiveness and inclusiveness, and gifted and talented.
Manu's topic is Being Intentionally Pasifika!, and following is taken from the abstract for her address:
Manu is interested in building relationships that focus on Pasifika responsiveness and inclusiveness — specifically for schools and centres who would like to increase their Pasifika capability and capacity; growing their “Pasifika hearts” to connect with Pasifika learners. This includes: community engagement; Pasifika responsiveness training for school leadership and management; Pasifika professional learning sessions for staff; Pasifika strategic planning for centre charters; and most importantly, recognition of Pasifika identities/languages/cultures. Manu will discuss these themes with reference to intentional teaching — which gives agency to the child and recognises what is important for the child and their learning.
