Meet the Board members

The CORE Education Board consists of:

Cam Moore – Chair
Cam Moore
Cameron Moore is a Christchurch businessman with extensive business networks through membership and leadership of manufacturer groups. He is the Deputy Chair of the Canterbury Development Corporation, a director of Mancan Foundation Ltd, Torrens Enterprises Ltd, chair of Anglican Aged Care, a member of the governance committee of the Christchurch City Mission, the chair of the Finance Committee of the Christchurch Anglican Diocese and an executive member of the Interchurch Council for Hospitals’ Chaplaincy. A graduate in commerce from Canterbury University, he is a life member of the Manufacturers’ and Exporters’ Association, Plastics New Zealand and a Life Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
Dr. Garth Carnaby MNZM, DSc, FRSNZ
Dr. Garth Carnaby
Garth currently holds the position of President of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He is Chair of NZ Synchrotron Group Ltd, Director of the Australian Synchrotron, Chair of the Canterbury Development Corporation, and Entrepreneur in Residence at Lincoln University. Dr Carnaby was previously Managing Director of the Wool Research Organisation of NZ and is the immediate past Chair of the Marsden Fund. His personal research achievements have been recognised by the award of Doctorates from UNSW, Leeds, Lincoln and De Montfort Universities and election to the Academy in NZ. He has run his own company since 2004, involving a mix of personal research, governance, and consultancy work mainly supported by the NZ Government.
Mrs Carol Moffatt QSO, MNZM, M.EdAdmin(Hons), Dip Tchg, LTCL(CMT)
Mrs Carol Moffatt
Carol was Awarded two Woolf Fisher Travelling fellowships 1976, 1987, and received New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM), 1997 for services to rural education. She has spent 41 years in education as teacher, secondary inspector, principal, with service in primary, secondary and area schools), and 1998–2003 Manager, ICT Strategy for Schools for the Ministry of Education. This work involved developing two ICT strategies over the five years and building a Ministry team which developed several major initiatives including TKI, ICT professional development for teachers, laptops for teachers, Project Probe (broadband for all New Zealand), ICT Helpdesk and several others.
Since 2003 she has worked on a variety of projects including the Ministry of Education Early Childhood Education Framework which was launched in April 2006. In 2009 she was appointed project manager learning to lead the Greater Christchurch Schools network (GCSN). She has held the following responsibilities: Director for Cognition Education Limited Trust, 2003; Director for CORE Education, 2005; Director for REANNZ (Research, Education, Advanced Network for New Zealand), 2005–2010; Board member for The Correspondence School, 2008.
Carol Moffatt was made a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for services to education in 2011. The latest honour came more than a decade after the respected educationalist was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Dr Cheryl Doig EdD, MEd, DipeEdMan, BEd, FNZIM
Dr. Cheryl Doig
Cheryl is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM), an independent director of NZIM Inc and a member of the Institute of Directors. She is managing director of both Think Beyond Ltd and ALPinE Leadership Ltd, and serves on a number of trusts.
Cheryl is a recognised leader in education – previously a highly successful school principal, Teaching Fellow in Educational Management and school reviewer. Under her leadership both Richmond and Fendalton schools received national recognition, including the Goodman Fielder School of the Year. Cheryl has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including the Beeby Fellowship and the Woolf Fisher Fellowship. She is a member of the Leadership Faculty of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders and speaks and writes internationally on leadership for the future.
Anthony (Tony) John Hall MNZM
Mr. Tony Hall
Tony currently holds a number of strategic positions within the education sector. He is Chair of the Community Colleges New Zealand Council, Trustee and Chair of the Partnership of Excellence Life Sciences, Massey-Lincoln, Council Member for both Telford Rural Polytechnic and Lincoln University and a Trustee on the Rangi Ruru Girls’ School Trust Board. He is also a Commissioner, for Tertiary Education Commission.
In the past Tony has also held roles in the Secondary Schools Futures Project Establishment Group, the Tertiary Education Advisory Commission and New Zealand Qualifications Authority Board.
Tony is actively involved in the local Canterbury community including roles as Chair of the North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust, Chairman of Mainpower Trust Board and Chairman, Enterprise Trust North Canterbury (2002-2008). A keen multi-sportsman, Tony has a life-long interest in sport and is a member of the Centre of Excellence-Academy of Sport (SI), a life member of Outward Bound Trust and a member of the Coast to Coast Event Management Team.
