Recently there was some publicity about twitter passing the 20 billion tweet mark, but perhaps much more relevant to CORE Education and to NZ educators is the fact that EDtalks has passed 150,000 videos watched. This is a significant milestone, and with the many developments we have in the pipeline we expect our online video streaming site to go from strength to strength.
Class international keynotes for ULearn10
Two Canadians—an award-winning designer and a pedagogical expert—and two Brits—an associate professor and a learning space designer—headline the keynotes for this year’s ULearn conference (Christchurch, October 6 – 8).
One of Europe’s foremost experts in digital media, Ewan McIntosh, has been giving seminars around New Zealand this month. McIntosh was National Adviser on Learning and Technology Futures for Learning and Teaching Scotland, the education agency responsible for curriculum development. He is a member of several advisory boards, including the Channel 4 New Media Education Advisory Board.
CORE Directors Ali Hughes and Derek Wenmoth visited England in June to pursue contacts and follow up on the conclusion of a successful school pilot of the Educational Positioning System (EPS).
Directors Ali Hughes and Derek Wenmoth attended an international educators conference in Nottingham before before going on to the National College’s Annual Leadership conference in Birmingham recently. “Both of these events provided excellent opportunities to network with key leaders in the education sector, and to gain valuable insights into the English education system and processes,” Ali says.
Education expert Derek Wenmoth spoke at CORE Education breakfast seminars in Hamilton and Dunedin about technology trends in education recently and will speak at breakfast seminars in Wellington and Christchurch in the coming months.
The CORE Education Foundation Travel Scholarship celebrating thought leadership in education and the Award for Professional Learning & Reflective Practice are open to teachers and leaders in all NZ early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools until 31 August.

Mandy Jackson has joined the Early Years team. Mandy, who has iwi affiliations with Ngā Mahanga in Taranaki, is based in Hawkes Bay and will be working with early childhood communities in Flaxmere, Hastings, and Napier as part of the new Early Childhood Education Ministry of Education contract.
Laura Dixon joined the CORE Christchurch team on 31 May as our desktop publisher and graphic designer.
This month we have also said a sad goodbye to Laura Evans (Researcher) and Rochelle McAllister (Office Administrator).
