Conference connectivity goes wireless

kidsCORE Education proudly supports the KidsCongress conference each year. A major part of this support is the provision of internet access to those workshops that need it. In past years this has been achieved by bringing a temporary adsl line into the venu and distrbuting it via a combination of cables and wireless access points.

This year's venue presented a challenge though. The event was held at QEII Park in Christchurch. Workshop rooms were scattered across this large venue, with many of the rooms out of reach or cables, and with too much steel and concrete to pick up centrally located wireless access points.

Not to be overcome by such a challenge the CORE Education IT team, with the help of Vodafone, managed to provide internet access to each workshop room using Vodafone 3G mobile broadband cards.  These were shared out to the rest of the room using Apple laptops. Vodafone provided six 3G cards and covered all the traffic costs for the two day event.
