If you were to ask Fred Strickson-Pua what is at the centre of education, he would without hesitation say, it is hearts and minds.
As a foundation staff member, Fred co-constructed a localised curriculum. Through a combined effort, he and his team were able to develop a Mentoring Advisory Coaching (MAC) model. Having a model that prioritises a place where relationships are honoured in a true sense and in a meaningful way is essential.
The positive increase in staff and student wellbeing has been encouraging. The upward drive of healthy mindsets, mindful education, restorative practices, and positive psychology has also seen massive gains for students hauora/wellbeing. Fred is keen to collaborate, share, connect and learn from others with a view to continually improving their own model.
Fred’s teaching experience has its roots firmly based in South Auckland. Previously, he headed the Independent Learning Centre at Alfriston College. Fred’s current role is Kainga Designer at Ormiston Junior College, Auckland.
