Viv Mallabar believes having the opportunity to open a new school, created a space to challenge the status quo in the practice and delivery of the NZ Curriculum document.
She is passionate about this ‘space’ where assumptions are challenged, multiple perspectives are a must, and diversity and discourse flourish. Alongside her team, they have combined the neuroscience behind an adolescent brain, and built teacher and student assessment capabilities in a way that celebrates the "wicked mess" within the complexities of school, all the while emphasizing or reverting back to the realisation that "you are where you need to be" on the journey, and that’s ok.
Viv has been a teacher, deputy principal, an assessment facilitator, and is a recent Master’s degree graduate. She currently works as a Leader of Learning at Ormiston Junior College, Auckland.
