NZTA Fellowship Award 2012

Key aim

The aim of the fellowship is for a passionate and committed teacher to review research on effective road safety education and create strategies for integrating effective road safety education practice into the secondary curriculum.

  • The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a project linked to Road Safety Education in NZ secondary schools
  • The fellowship has a value of $15,000 in cash and runs from February 2012 to July 2012
  • The fellowship also includes registration fees, flights and accommodation where appropriate to attend Ulearn 2012 and the International Conference on Thinking, 2013 to be held in Wellington
  • The fellow will be expected to present his/her work at the above conferences, at local teacher hui and through online and/or print publication
  • The NZTA fellow will work alongside other teachers who are a part of the CORE e-Fellowship programmeThe support includes online mentoring, and visits to CORE HQ in Christchurch to work together
  • Travel and accommodation costs associated with this are also provided

Information

  • In 2012 there will be one award.
  • The Fellowship is open to all registered teachers from secondary schools (includes state and private sectors).
  • To be awarded the NZTA Fellowship, educators must have a strong passion for working to help schools deliver curriculum related programmes designed to improve road safety (especially young driver safety) and a desire to share their work with the wider teaching community.
  • Applicants must complete ALL sections of the application form and ensure that TWO supporting statements are received by CORE Education by the closing date.

  • Applicants may be invited to take part in an online or phone interview after application forms have been considered.
  • The successful applicant must have use of a laptop computer, and home broadband access during the period of the Fellowship.

Application process

On the application form you will:

  • Provide contact and professional information.
  • Provide a brief outline of your professional history, highlighting any involvement in innovative teaching and learning (100-200 words).
  • Describe why you believe you are a suitable candidate for this fellowship. (In selecting the successful candidate, the selectors will be looking for evidence of a real passion to make a difference in road safety education in secondary schools) (200 words)
  • Explain how you intend to disseminate your work to the wider education community (up to 100 words).
  • Include contact details of two supporters of your application, one from your Principal, and one from another person qualified to comment on your professional history, reputation or capability.

Criteria for selection

In selecting educators for induction into the Fellowship, the selection panel will consider:

  • The applicant's reasons for being considered, including evidence for his/her passion for making a difference in road safety education.
  • The applicant's proven history of, and reputation for, innovation or leadership in teaching and learning in general.
  • Evidence of potential for leadership in their sector.

The selection panel

  • Selection will be conducted by a panel set up by CORE Education.
  • The panel will consist of two CORE Education representatives (one of whom will chair the panel), and and NZTA's Senior Education Advisor.
  • The panel's decision is final.

The 2012 eFellow Master Classes, which the NZTA Fellow will join will be held at CORE Education on:

  • Thursday 15 and Friday 16 March (at CORE Education in Christchurch)
  • Thursday 7 and Friday 8 June (at CORE Education in Christchurch)

The conferences at which the Fellow will be expected to present are:

  • ULearn, Rotorua 10-12 October
  • International Conference on Thinking, 12-25 January 2013

The Fellow will be expected to:

  • Attend all master classes at the scheduled times.
  • Present at the conference conferences listed above, and at local hui.
  • Work together with the eFellows, CORE and NZTA staff in a collaborative fashion.
  • Publish his/her work in an appropriate online and/or print medium.
