In creating the CORE Education Travel Award, CORE Education intends to celebrate and recognise the contributions that educational practitioners make to our knowledge and thinking around teaching and learning. Theirs is a voice that, when it is heard at all, tends to be heard in subject conferences, professional association meetings, professional magazines, unpublished Masters theses, and the like, rather than in the academic research literature, or in the daily discourse of the corridors of power. But it is a voice that has, and should have, a powerful influence on what we do in education, and that potentially contributes much to what we know about quality teaching and our understanding of effective learning.
The CORE Education Travel Scholarship scheme, therefore, aims to encourage teachers from all sectors to ‘have a say’ about important educational issues, to collect and publish some of leading teachers’ thinking in the field, and to contribute the perspective of some of our best teachers to current ‘thought leadership’ in education.
The CORE Education Travel Scholarship recognises New Zealand teachers’ contributions to educational thought, by awarding a travel grant to attend an international education event. To enter, teachers must produce and submit a thought-provoking teacher-perspective, demonstrating their contribution to educational thought. This perspective can take any form, but should relate to CORE’s Ten Trends.
