All you need to know

  1. If you are arriving at Hamilton airport you can get a shuttle into the Claudelands Event Centre. Just tell the drivers that you are going to the Claudelands Events Centre.
  2. Registration will be in the Claudelands Events Centre foyer from 7.15am on Thursday 26th January. There will be a newbies session for those who would like more information about the conference on the second floor on the Arena Concourse.
  3. When you register, you will be given a lanyard, a name tag, and a conference booklet. The conference booklet will give you information about venues, maps, buses, and the reception. Please read it carefully.
  4. For security reasons you must wear your lanyard at all times. Don't be offended if you are asked to go back to your hotel/motel to get it.
  5. All venues are in walkable distance, although we do provide a bus to and from the Southwell School. These buses leave outside the Claudelands Events Centre Hall A.
  6. There are 4 Keynote sessions and 5 breakout/workshop sessions, two on the first day of the conference and three on the second day. Most of the workshops are 80min in length, except for the taster sessions, which are 30 minutes long. There are two taster sessions within each breakout, and they are labelled A & B
  7. Please attend those sessions you have booked into. If you want to change or unbook a session, you can do that online using your own laptop by going to the Breakouts Tab on the Ulearn website http://www.core-ed.org/learningatschool, Think about the presenter before you skip a session.
  8. In each 2-3 breakout rooms we have a support person. Their role is to act as security as well as help the presenter and delegates. Please take your breakout printout list with you, as you may be asked to show your list to obtain entry to some workshops, especially those where the room is small.
  9. We will need to bring your laptop which you will need for some workshops. You will be able to access your web-based email through the wireless network in most venues. Power will be available in most BYO workshop rooms.
  10. There will be a tech support help desk close to registration.
  11. A bag drop/charging station will be in operation in the Claudelands Events Centre where you can leave your laptop to charge or drop your bag off for safe keeping. There may be a small charge for this service
  12. Morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas will be served in the Exhibition Hall A. Tables are dotted throughout the hall, so please don't stop at the first one you see. We don't provide chairs or tables, as we want you to mix and mingle with other delegates and exhibitors. Besides, there is really no room for this.
  13. The Conference reception is to be held on the Upper Concourse in the Events Centre.
  14. Workshops are bookable, and you will need your username and password to book your breakouts. Make sure you have paid your conference fees, as you will be prevented from booking workshops unless your invoice is paid. You can book your breakouts online.   15. Keynotes are held in the Claudelands Events Centre Arena . There are four keynote presentations. Spotlights are held in Heaphy rooms. A spotlight is a presentation featuring recognised leaders in education. There will be one Spotlights held in each breakout session 1 to 4.
  16. If you lose something during the conference, go to the registration desk in case someone has handed it in. Room-support personnel usually collect left items and return them to the registration.
  17. For those of you who can't do without your morning COFFEE fix, a coffee cart will be available in the Claudelands Event Centre Hall A from early morning, creating the best conference coffee you will have tasted in years.
  18. You can keep up-to-date by accessing the Learning@School Conference website(www.core-ed.org/learningatschool). After the conference you will be able to access presenter materials, keynote, and spotlight videos to use back at your school or centre. The link to these will be available from the website for approximately one month.
  19. To look and book breakouts you need to go to the Learning@School Community Webpage http://community.core-ed.org/ You will also need to use this page to access your breakout list. If you have registered for the conference you will have been sent a password to access this site. Go to the main L@S website and look under breakouts for the link
