Kaihautū Māori

De and Whare

Deanne Thomas

De is CORE Education’s Kaihautū Māori with responsibility for all services and products delivered by the Māori Medium Publishing, Research and Evaluation, and Professional Learning and Development staff. As Senior Manager she also supports staff across the company to become more skilled in their own cultural understandings and competencies, and drives the outcomes of CORE’s Treaty based partnership with Māori, known as Te Aho Tapu.

As a writer, key note speaker, workshop facilitator, event co-ordinator, and leadership mentors, De is also available for consultancy.

Based in Wellington, I provide administration support for our CORE Whānau, with a focus on the Māori Medium Publishing and Māori Medium PLD teams as well as working alongside the CORE Pasifika aiga.

The Māori-Medium Team supports development and capability in Māori-medium settings across Aotearoa, to enhance and accelerate student wellbeing.

My role is to support kura/settings to design, develop and implement a localised curriculum that meet the educational needs of students to support raising their achievement. As a facilitator I work with kaiako, whānau, communities, hapū. Kei te Tai Tokerau ahau e noho ana.

He ringa raupā ahau mō Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Ko te ia o te mahi kia ranga te tira, ranga te iwi, ranga te marau ā-kura kia whakamana ai ngā mokopuna. Supporting students, whānau, hapū and iwi alongside their schools to articulate their graduate profile and design a curriculum that realises their aspirations.

Ka ārahi au i ētahi kirimana e hāpai ana i te reo i ngā kura reo Māori o te motu. I lead reo Māori contracts in Māori Medium Education and am a co-National Provision Lead for Te Reo Māori Māori Medium.

I am a Team Leader for both the Learning with Digital Technologies Central South Regional team and the Māori-Medium Learning with Digital Technologies team. I also work in both English-Medium and Māori-Medium kura/schools supporting them to strengthen their e-capability to raise student outcomes.

I am also a regional facilitator working alongside schools and kura to enhance their use of ICT tools and technologies to engage and raise achievement for learners; and to develop and sustain their e-capability.

I have found digital technologies invaluable in my learning and teaching, and continue to explore the opportunities modern learning practices and digital technologies create to transform learning.
