Registrations are now open for He Waka Eke Noa a kaupapa Māori Wānanga aimed at providing professional learning for Level 1 and Level 2 Māori medium educators.
All Māori educators are welcome, including Kōhanga, language nests, primary and secondary schools, Kura kaupapa Māori, Rumaki & Reo rua, Wharekura, teacher training providers, boards of trustees, Iwi/Hapū and Runanga.
Previous He Waka Eke Noa conferences have focused solely on Information Communication Technology (ICT), but this year as well as workshops on ICT there will be a strong emphasis on Ka Hikitia - and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
Programme organiser Hēmi Waerea says this national wānanga is a great opportunity to bring Māori educators together under the one roof for professional learning and support around Ka Hikitia – and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
“It is a great opportunity for Māori educators to bounce ideas off each other, listen to great speakers, hear views from the National Government and talk about how other schools are implementing Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and The New Zealand Curriculum,” he says.
Attendees will have a chance to keep up to date with the latest ICT information with workshops on twitter, blogs and other web 2.0 tools.
Māori medium educators will be able to participate in a myriad of professional learning opportunities encompassing the following themes:
Kaihautū - Leadership & management. Attendants will be informed about current leadership and management strategies to enhance and support leadership and management styles.
Te reo taki - Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga. Participants will be able to participate in workshops and seminars led by reo Māori exponents and develop their own knowledge and proficiency within Te Reo me ōna tikanga
Kaitātaki - Teaching & learning. There will be opportunities to learn about and debate current teaching and learning theories.
Kaihoe - Whānau & community. Workshops will highlight the benefits of fostering positive relations with whānau, hapū,iwi and hapori
