Unpack how learning can be organised in a modern learning environment, to best suit the needs of modern learners and how this relates to your teaching. Explore and discuss the theoretical frameworks that support pedagogical practices.

Learning Outcomes

Course participants will be able to:

  • develop strategies for creating a personalised, collaborative and reflective classroom
  • organise learning in a modern learning environment
  • prepare learners for their future
  • respond to the impacts of new and emerging digital technologies

Who is this for

This course is intended for those passionate about exploring new strategies and tools, investigate the transition from theory to practice, and discover the complexities and rewards of teaching in the 21st century. Participants should have access to a classroom/teaching context that can be used as the context for completing tasks and applying the things they learn. The course is designed ideally for a group of staff from within a school, where they can collaboratively work on the themes and topics introduced within their school environment.

Course format

20 week course divided into four modules (5 weeks per module).
3-5 professional learning hours per week.

Each 5 week module includes:

  • 2 facilitated webinars
  • online learning                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

Modules

Module 1: Rethinking learners
Consider the skills, competencies and dispositions required by modern learners to equip them for the 21st century.


Module 2: Rethinking teachers
Explore the concept of collaborative practice, and the de-privatising of practice within a modern learning environment.


Module 3: Rethinking learning
Develop understanding of modern pedagogy and 21st century approaches to teaching and learning.


Module 4: Rethinking support
Explore ways that curriculum, technology, resources and the environment can support modern learning practice.

Be rewarded for your learning

Educators registering for Modern Learning Practice can now receive credit for this course towards a post-graduate qualification with University of Canterbury, University of Waikato or Unitec. Upon completion, you will be provided a letter to submit to your tertiary provider, along with the assessment evidence from the course.
