Early Childhood Targeted Professional Development Programme
The Targeted Professional Development Programme (2010–2013) is Ministry of Education funded. It operates in specific locations in New Zealand where communities have the most to gain from high quality early childhood services.
Purpose of the programme to work with early childhood teams and communities
The intention of the Targeted Professional Development Programme is to strengthen cohesiveness and coherence of effective practice through centre-based professional learning. CORE facilitators are working with early childhood teaching teams and communities to improve learning outcomes for children in the following focus areas:
- transitions
- social competence
- identity, language and culture
- infants and toddlers
- leadership
- literacy and numeracy.
Locations where the programme is being run
Locations include:
- Northern region: Massey Ward, Tamaki Ward, Henderson Ward, Eden Ward
- Central North region: Matamata, Te Aroha, Paeroa/Waihi, Thames, Coromandel/Colville, Hastings Ward, Napier City Ward, Flaxmere Ward
- Southern region: Hagley Ferrymead Ward, Burwood Pegasus Ward, Riccarton Wigram Ward, Spreydon Heathcote Ward, Ashburton Ward, Waimate Ward, Oamaru Ward, Wallace Ward, South Dunedin Ward, Invercargill Ward
Centres within each location may be engaged in a centre-based programme tailored to their needs, or be part of a cluster of centres addressing the same focus area.
