Mandy has over thirty years experience in early childhood education and has been a teacher, professional manager, site manager, lecturer, professional development facilitator for an iwi, and a manager for increasing participation for the Ministry of Education. Mandy is passionate about learning and teaching in the early years with a particular interest in ‘place based ‘ education, child advocacy and supporting children living in poverty, enabling them to reach their potential.

Expertise: 

Mandy believes that it is a universal right of all children to access early childhood education. She also works with the knowledge that the founding document of Aotearoa, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, is the crucial pathway for all children in Aotearoa to obtain educational success. Maori education development and Maori achievement in education underpins all her work.

Personal statement: 

“I spent 28 years in the tribal lands of Tuwharetoa, raising 3 children. I moved back to Te Matau a Maui the tribal lands of Ngati Kahungunu four years ago to be close to her elderly parents. I now live in the coastal community of Te Awanga and am in my final year of completing a post graduate diploma in child advocacy.”
