Professional Profile

For the past 16 years Kea has been teaching in South Auckland, in childcare, Te Kohanga Reo, and more recently in public kindergarten. Taking part in the ECE ICT PL programme honed her passion for building learning environments for children and families that reflect the Aotearoa/NZ experience.

Kea is keen to support authentic learning experiences for children that are driven by children's interests and where the environment is created to fit the child and their whanau. Since being involved in the ECE ICT PL programme, Kea has not been without her ICT tools. She says she is excited about the engagement that ICT tools can bring to children's learning, and the potential to help teachers work smarter.

Kea's family ties are with Tuhoe. Kea has two young children, and she is currently exploring the use of social networking tools to build and sustain links with her whanau.

Kea is committed to getting people over the 'hump' of being second language learners, to seeing the use of Te Reo me nga Tikanga Māori as a natural part of all mainstream early childhood settings.
