    Mandy has over thirty years experience in early childhood education and has been a teacher, professional manager, site manager, lecturer, professional development facilitator for an iwi, and a manager for increasing participation for the Ministry of Education. Mandy is passionate about learning and teaching in the early years with a particular interest in ‘place based ‘ education, child advocacy and supporting children living in poverty, enabling them to reach their potential.

    Expertise

    Mandy believes that it is a universal right of all children to access early childhood education. She also works with the knowledge that the founding document of Aotearoa, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, is the crucial pathway for all children in Aotearoa to obtain educational success. Maori education development and Maori achievement in education underpins all her work.

    “I spent 28 years in the tribal lands of Tuwharetoa, raising 3 children. I moved back to Te Matau a Maui the tribal lands of Ngati Kahungunu four years ago to be close to her elderly parents. I now live in the coastal community of Te Awanga and am in my final year of completing a post graduate diploma in child advocacy.”

        Tara first became involved in education through attending Playcentre with her children. This experience led to Tara taking further study in education. Tara's postgraduate research investigated the nature of children's social interactions in a mixed-age setting. Tara has a variety of educational interests including: the rights of children, children's interactions, ICT and 21st century pedagogy. She is currently working for CORE in the most perfect role for her, as it allows her to combine her love of ICT and education.

          Justine has been involved in early childhood professional development for eight years. During that time she has had the privilege of working with teachers and parents in a variety of early childhood settings including play centres, kindergartens and home-based care services. She has been involved in early childhood for 27 years; 18 years teaching in early childhood settings.
