Teach-Meet (Pecha Kucha style)
Teach Meet – Pecha Kucha style
(5.00pm-7.00pm Tuesday 18th Oct)
Take the opportunity to have a wine, some nibbles and meet your fellow delegates after you have registered on Tuesday evening. This year we are giving everyone a Conference Taster. Many of our invited presenters are getting into the swing of the conference by presenting a Pecha Kucha which is a short 6 minute 40sec presentation on a topic dear to their hearts. Presenters will be there to entertain us with their topics of choice.
It will loads of fun so join in the experience, either as an attendee or presenter. If you would like to present email sherry.chrisp@core-ed.org
If you are a registered delegate you can select the pecha Kucha when you select breakouts
NOTE: This will be a first in first served basis. Don't miss the fun!!
Presenters include
DK, Stephen Heppell, Douglas Harre, Derek Wenmoth, Mark Treadwell, Charles Newton, and Craig Hansen.
Programme
1. DK : A SOCIAL MEDIA EDUCATION
Schools are fast in danger of becoming out-dated places of tradition and historic models of learning whilst everything you ever want to learn is now available through social media and social networking platforms. This talk aims to wade deep into the opportunities available to augment the current teaching methodologies by exploring new pedagogical approaches, learning spaces and developments such as the 'internet of things'.
2. Mark Treadwell : WHAT NEEDS CHANGING?
With so many issues needing addressing what issues should schools deal with first and what can be put? How can all that PD be managed while the staff all have full time jobs. And families and a social life – okay they don’t have a social life but maybe they should do? Here are some signposts and indicators to help direct the future of schooling
3. Karen Melhuish : DON’T SPIT THE DUMMY: WHY ONLINE LEARNING IS CHILD’S PLAY
When we're learning online, some of us need a hand to hold, while others proudly show the big kids how its done. This light-hearted session shows that, when it comes to embracing online learning, there’s no substitute for wide-eyed curiosity, sturdy training wheels and a willingness to share your favourite toys.
4. Charles Newton : "THINKING E STRATEGICALLY"
Leading elearning in schools is a demanding challenge and many struggle to articulate the vision and coherence that this requires. So, here is tried and true advice to help you out.
5. Craig Hansen : Shoot, rig and Morph: Dance like a Zombie or break like a Robot
There’s no such thing as ‘brainacs required’ when teaching with digital and interactive media. Yes, its easy to get dazzled by the flashing lights, but you too can be using interactive media in the classroom to create mind-grabbing learning experiences.
6. Stephen Heppell : ANATOMY OF CHANGE
For three years Stephen has been engaged in a lengthy collaboration to create a exciting, effective and playful new school that his two grandchildren will attend. It opens at the start of 2012. This pragmatically focussed session examines the design; organisational choices, and opportunities, presented.
7. Derek Wenmoth : From GUTENBURG to ZUCHERBERG
Understanding the changes we face in education through reflections on commentaries from the past.
