Technology changes the way the world works. As technology evolves, so must the skill sets of those who use it. In order to remain competitive tomorrow, today’s students need to develop techniques that readily adapt to changes as they occur.
The implementation of the revised NZ Curriculum will almost certainly have an impact on what happens with ICTs in schools – in particular, we’re likely to see a re-emergence of lists of ‘competencies’ for ICTs (focus likely to be initially on ICT literacy/ies). It is likely that we’ll see tensions emerge again among those who regard teaching ICT skills as important, and those who see the use of ICTs across all areas of the curriculum as a priority. The lack of technically skilled graduates from high school will drive demand for a ‘computing curriculum’
